Gail Rice – Psychologist, Writer, Wanderer

Wandering – Notes from Elsewhere – Wandering Writer

Wandering has always been part of Gail’s life. She is happiest in motion — on the road, in the air, or beside the water — exploring unfamiliar places and the stories they hold. Gail has travelled widely — often alone, and sometimes with groups of writers — gathering inspiration, connection, and insight into her own stories.
Whether through travel, retreat, or everyday rituals, these experiences offer perspective, stillness, and a creative pause to restory, reframe and reconnect.
Now these journeys are part of her creative practice. Wherever she travels her writing comes too: sometimes shaped in solitude, sometimes shared in circles of writers gathered around a table or a fire.

Writing Retreats

Guatemala (with Joyce Maynard), Halifax (with Allegra Huston), Bali (with Kerstin Pilz and Edwina Shaw), Mittagong (with Lee Koffman).

Shared tables, notebooks open, stories spilling into the air. Learning, listening, laughing — discovering that writing in company can be its own kind of home.

Solo Adventures

Recent adventure in Spain, Greece, Turkey, Mexico, Vancouver Island.

Travelling alone —a reminder how writing begins in silence — wandering through new streets, sitting with a coffee for a companion, finding meaning in small, ordinary moments.

Restorative Airbnbs (Australia)

Weekends away — coastal walks, windows with a view, quiet mornings and a piccolo

Time to rest, write, and begin again.
These were the spaces where I come back to Mem, to myself, to the rhythm of words.
