Memoir in Progress
Gail’s memoir explores the parallel lives of mother and daughter — the threads of care, control, responsibility, and longing that weave across generations. It examines the early formation of self sufficiency, the longing to be cared for, and the emotional inheritance that shapes identity.
At its heart, the memoir explores how the past pulls forward, and how rewriting a story can open a new future.
Quote:
“Writing the past is a road to discovering a new future.”
Mem and Me
Writing demands a long-term commitment and like any other relationship it offers both joy and pain. I call my memoir Mem to remind myself that she deserves, respect, attention, patience, and honesty
Some days Mem and I argue. Some days we hide from each other. And some days we sit together in the quiet and find a way forward. Many times, I have wanted to run away, give up, but she is teaching me about trust and vulnerability as we learn to tell our story together. Perhaps learning to be in a relationship is one of the biggest lessons for me in this writing project.
